How to Avoid ‘Manels’ at Your Next Event

"Invite more women. Period. No need to overthink this." Whether it’s a live event (in-person) or a virtual (digital) event, ‘manels’ (all male panels) are a major faux pas. We live in a world where there are endless numbers of competent women who are in positions of power and who are knowledgeable and competent. Panels of experts or participants that consist of men only are entirely preventable. Here are my top 3 ways to thwart manels:

#1 – INVITE MORE WOMEN TO SPEAK, PRESENT, FACILITATE, EMCEE AND LEAD DISCUSSIONS AT YOUR NEXT EVENT.

#2 - INVITE MORE WOMEN TO SPEAK, PRESENT, FACILITATE, EMCEE AND LEAD DISCUSSIONS AT YOUR NEXT EVENT.

#3 - INVITE MORE WOMEN TO SPEAK, PRESENT, FACILITATE, EMCEE AND LEAD DISCUSSIONS AT YOUR NEXT EVENT.

That’s it. This is the blog. Invite more women. Period. No need to overthink this. Actually, there is one more thing …. If you are a man who has been invited to be part of an all-male panel at an event (aka a manel), you can refuse to participate unless there is diversity added to the panel. This means insisting on panels of people representing different genders, race, and ethnicities.
